Democratic Party:

The Democratic Party is one of the two major political parties that are present in the United States while the other being the Republican Party. Founded around 1828, the modern day Democratic Party is the world’s oldest active party. Party strives for the philosophy of modern liberalism and supports economic and social equality. It seeks government intervention to provide support for labor unions, universal health care, the introduction of social programs, equal opportunity, environmental protection, and consumer protection. These form the core economic policy of the party. Members of the Democratic party are called ‘Democrats’ or ‘Dems’. Presently, the House of the Democratic caucus is occupied mostly with centrists and progressives. It also contains a smaller minority of conservative Democrats.

The world’s oldest active party has produced a total of 15 Presidents, in other words, there have been 15 Democratic Presidents for the United States so far. Andrew Jackson was the first Democratic President who served the office from 1829 to 1837 and Barack Obama is the most recent Democratic President who is in the office since 2009. After defeating Senator John McCain of Arizona, Obama became the 44th president and the first African-American to be elected to the office. Before Obama, Bill Clinton served as the 14th Democratic and 42nd President of the United States.

The official logo for the Democratic Party is unveiled in September 2010. However, ‘the donkey party logo with stars’ is still a well-known symbol for the Democratic Party. The Democratic party uses a variety of symbols in different states. In Indiana, Oklahoma, and Ohio the party uses rooster. In New York, the party ballot symbol is five-pointed stars. And Missouri Democrats used the Statue of Liberty for the majority of the 20th Century. Both the major parties use traditional American colors of red, blue and white with slight variations for their campaigning and other marketing stuff. However, media uses blue color for the Democratic Party and red color for the Republican Party. Since then all the major broadcast television networks started using the same color scheme for the electoral map.

When it comes to voters, the LGBT community which consists of Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans mostly vote for the Democratic Party in the national elections.
