While the country is looming with the coronavirus pandemic, another lousy news awaits for the people of America who get to choose their President for the next four years in less than five months. According to the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released this Sunday, eight out of 10 American voters believe that things are totally out of control in the United States. This is an overwhelming majority of 80% of the voters. Coming to the supporters of the two major parties of the US, 92 percent of the Democrat supporters think the country is out of control to that of 66 percent of Republican supporters. Of the remaining, only 15 percent of the voters believe that things are well under control. The survey took place from May 28th to June 2nd in various parts of the country.
The survey took place amid the spread of coronavirus, which killed over 100,000 Americans and after the protests in response to the killing of George Floyd, and it’s expected that these two are the primary reasons for the rising concern. As per the same survey, 59 percent, which is more than half, say that they are more worried about the police actions, which led to the death of Floyd. Only 27 percent were concerned about the protests being destructive. The response from the voters split against the party lines. Eighty-one percent of the Democratic supporters were concerned over Floyd’s death compared to just 29 percent of the Republican voters to which President Trump belongs. Even when air travel is open for Americans, two-thirds of the voters said that they are still uncomfortable with flying or attending dense gatherings.
In the coronavirus case, 63 percent of voters think that they are “very/somewhat” worried about someone in their family being infected by the coronavirus. Additionally, only 35 percent of the voters think the economy will return to normal within a year. Seventeen percent of them believe it takes more than a year to go back to normal. On the other hand, President Trump’s approval rating is worrisome. Forty-five percent of them supported Trump, and 53 percent disapproved of him to be the President.Dr. Dhillon Randeep
