US Presidential elections are the most prestigious political event across the world. Every country in the world keeps an eye on the elections that happen every four years. The 2016 Presidential Elections is no different to it. However, the dynamics have changed for the 2016 elections. Donald Trump, a businessman, was up against Hillary Clinton, who was the former First Lady and worked as United Secretary and also as the Senator of New York. After the successful result of 2016 elections, an investigation was ordered to oversee the allegations of Russian Interference in 2016 US Elections. The Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Robert Mueller on May 17, 2017, to work on the investigation. Robert Mueller served as the sixth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In his report presented at the Capitol Hill, Mueller was grilled for over 7 hours. He submitted the report consisting of 448 pages in total. Will Hurd, former CIA officer and now a Texas Republican asked: “whether Russia took part in our campaign and pose a potential threat to our elections.” To which Mueller replied - “Yes, many other countries are working to replicate what the Russians have done. They are doing it as we sit here, and they expect to do it during the next campaign.” When asked about Trump’s take on WikiLeaks, Mueller answered - “Problematic is an understatement.” He further hit out at Donald Trump Jr for having direct contact with WikiLeaks and called the contacts as disturbing. These were the two most highlighted points. Both the Democrats and the Republicans celebrated Mueller testimony. Like he always does, Donald Trump, dissed Mueller with a series of tweets.
