Biden nominates 2 Indian-American women for key government positions

President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced his decision to nominate two Indian-American women for the positions of chief lawyer and executive.

The nominations of Meera Joshi and Radhika Fox, who joined the administration on January 20, the first day of the Biden presidency, are being seen as promotions.

The White House said in a statement that in the Department of Transportation Ms. Joshi has been nominated as Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, while Ms. Fox has been nominated as Assistant Administrator for Water and Environmental Protection Systems.

Biden appointed Ms. Joshi as Deputy Administrator and Senior Officer of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on January 20, 2021, and Fox as Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for Water at the Environmental Protection Agency.

He also announced his intention to nominate Faisal Amin as the Chief Financial Officer of the Environmental Protection System (EPA). Amin is currently serving as the Deputy Director of the Office's Administrative Department in the President's Executive Office.

These three designations were part of Biden's announcement of his desire to nominate 12 members of his administration to lead on climate and transportation matters across key agencies, including the Department of Energy, Department of the Interior, Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Transportation.

Ms. Joshi, a lawyer with more than 16 years of experience in government surveillance agencies, was the Chair and CEO of the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission and the nation's largest fare transport regulator. Where he led the Novel Vision Zero campaigns using data to keep high-risk drivers and unsafe vehicles off the road.

In addition to her government positions, Ms. Joshi has served as General Manager for the New York office of Sam Schwartz Transportation Consultants and she was a Visiting Scholar at New York University's Rudin Center for Transportation Policy.

Ms. Fox is currently serving as the Executive Assistant Administrator for Water, the EPA's Water Office working to ensure that drinking water is safe, that wastewater is safely returned to the environment, and that surface water Is managed and secured.

In San Francisco, Ms. Fox directed the Policy and Government Affairs Agenda for the Public Utilities Commission, which is responsible for providing 24/7 water, wastewater and municipal power services to 2.6 million people in the Gulf region.
