Trump is unqualified to deal with coronavirus outbreak -Joe Biden

A novel strain of coronavirus was reported in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The pandemic was labeled as 2019-nCoV by the World Health Organization. As of today, more than 130 deaths and approximately 5,500 cases are confirmed in the coronavirus pneumonia outbreak. The virus is spreading at an alarming rate to other countries by passengers who are traveling from China. While every head of the state is worried about the pandemic, President Donald Trump seems least concerned.

So far, coronavirus cases have been confirmed in a dozen countries, with at least five of them in the United States and are only expected to increase. However, as a President of the most developed nation, Trump didn’t act as expected in handling the emergency situation. Former Vice President Biden, in an article for USA Today, said - “Donald Trump is unqualified to handle the pandemic as President. I vividly remember how, as a businessman, Trump sought to stoke fear and stigma during the 2014 Ebola epidemic. He went on to call President Barack Obama a dumb, dope, and incompetent. That was not the end; Trump questioned our efforts, which eventually saved hundreds of thousands of lives. He suggested abandoning of infected Americans rather than bringing them back home for treatment.”

Biden further added, “Trump’s failure of major judgments and multiple rejections of science will eventually make him the worst possible person to our country through a global health challenge.” On the other hand, the State Department scheduled an evacuation flight and suggested American passengers against traveling to Hubei province, which is the epicenter of the outbreak. All this while, Trump has only tweeted, “it will all work out well,” without any safety measures to avoid getting infected by the virus. His administration has not even drafted a plan to fight the infection before it goes out of control. Additionally, it is the right time to remember how Trump rolled back much of the progress initiated by the Obama-Biden administration to strengthen global health security. Trump proposed significant cuts to the National Institutes of Health, which are the centers for Disease Control and Prevention and also the Agency for International Development, the premier agencies needed to fight the outbreak and prevent any future ones.

As a president, Biden promised to uphold US leadership in global health security. His policies will always work based on science and not with fiction or fear mongering. He is also committed to asking Congress to increase the Public Health Emergency Fund.
