Democratic Presumptive nominee, Joe Biden, again proves his lead in the latest ABC News/ Washington Post poll released on Sunday. The poll was regarding the face-off between former vice president, Joe Biden, and President Trump in November’s general elections. While Biden holds a comfortable 10-point lead over Donald Trump as per the survey, Trump’s overall approval rating further decreased, slipping back into negative territory. Joe Biden has been on a winning streak since the Democratic Primary in South Carolina, where he defeated the confident Bernie Sanders giving a new life to his campaign. After that, the progress for Biden’s campaign has been phenomenal. He outperformed Bernie Sanders in 90% of the primaries and eventually made him quit the race and became the Presumptive Democratic nominee.
Biden’s dream run is also continuing in the polls by different media organizations. According to the ABC News/ Washington Post poll, 53% of the registered voters supported Joe Biden to that of 43% for President Trump, who is aiming for re-election. Over the last two months, Biden increased his lead by a whopping 8 points against Trump, who slipped from 47 to 43% presently. In a similar poll by ABC News/Washington Post conducted in March 2020, Biden had a lead of just 2 points, with 49 percent supporting him compared to 47 percent for Trump. The poll also revealed a significant decrease in the President’s approval ratings. Trump received 45% of the approval ratings while his disapproval ratings peaked to 53 percent. This comes as a blow to the President as he always hypes his presidency showing the approval ratings. Interestingly, the poll was conducted mostly before the protests began across the country after the death of George Floyd in police custody. Trump’s response to the protests could well be blown out of proportion and result in further dip in his ratings if the survey took place later this week.
The ABC poll was conducted from May 25 to 28 over the telephone with a sample of 1001 adults. The error margin is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. With this poll win, Biden seems to be in the perfect position to defeat President Trump in November. This is the third consecutive lead for Biden over Trump in the last three polls. In the Fox News Poll, Biden enjoyed an 8-point lead, and in the Economist/YouGov poll released last week, Biden had a 3-point lead over Trump.Dr. Dhillon Randeep
