President Donald Trump is on a spree of abusing power bestowed on him. Firstly, he asked foreign leaders and governments to target his political opponents using his power as the President of the United States. Now, it looks like Trump is using his power to benefit his businesses. Yes, you heard it right, President Trump has finalized his hotel complex Trump National Doral Miami to host the G-7 Summit in June 2020. Mick Mulvaney, the acting chief of staff at the White House, announced the news in a press briefing on Thursday.
Mick Mulvaney added - “Doral was not the only option, but it was the best physical location to host the summit. We did consider several others and finalized the Doral Miami.” Mulvaney also shot back in response to a question about the event benefitting Trump; he said: “If you think it will help his brand, that’s great. I’d suggest that he probably doesn’t need much help promoting his brand. He has no interest in profiting from being there.” He further added, the resort will host the event at the cost of attendees, and the US will save millions in hosting the event at Doral Miami. However, he declined to share the cost figures in the press briefing. Speaking to CNBC, a spokesperson from the Trump Organization expressed their excitement and claimed Doral Miami is a world-class facility to host such events.
As soon as the announcement was made, critics of President Trump expressed their disappointment with the decision. “This is the most overt corruption to date,” wrote Walter Shaub, former director of the Office of Government Ethics. Trump’s opponent Joe Biden blasted him over the decision; he tweeted - “Hosting a major foreign leader summit at a Trump hotel? Donald Trump continues to abuse his power to line his own pockets. Time to put up (your tax returns) or shut up Mr. President.”

Interestingly, the Doral Miami resort has been on a revenue plunge ever since Trump took over the office. The Washington Post report that from 2015 to 2017, Doral Miami’s net operating income fell from $13.8 million to $4.3 million, with revenue dropping from $92 million to $75 million.
