Twitter plays a significant role in real-time announcements and decisions made by elected representatives and governments of various countries. The United States official government accounts are most popular and are followed by millions of people. After every election, Twitter helps the newly elected candidates with the account rights. According to a confirmation by Twitter to POLITICO news outlet, the United States presidential Twitter handle @POTUS will be automatically transferred to President-elect Joe Biden as soon as he takes the oath on Inauguration Day, irrespective of whether or not President Donald Trump concedes the defeat or not. The same will be applied to all accounts like @WhiteHouse @VP, @FLOTUS, and numerous other official accounts related to the presidency.
Responding via email, Twitter spokesperson Nick Pacilio said - "Twitter is actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20th, 2021. Just like the way we did for the presidential transition in 2017, the process will be the same this time as well in close cooperation with the National Archives and Records Administration." According to the micro-blogging site, the transfer of accounts will not share any information between the outgoing Trump administration and the incoming Biden's team. All the existing tweets by the outgoing President and his administration will be archived. The company will transfer the accounts by resetting the tweet count to zero on Inauguration Day. Twitter has previously followed the same for outgoing President Barack Obama. All his tweets as the President can be accessed from the Twitter handle @POTUS44, where 44 indicates him as the 44th President of the United States.
The confirmation from Twitter comes as a great shock to President Trump, who is adamant about accepting the presidential elections' defeat. Trump has protested against Biden's win, accusing a significant voter fraud in crucial swing states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Georgia. Trump's constant efforts have delayed the transition process for Biden's team. Biden and his team have no access to any official infrastructure, from accessing the office space to using government email addresses or the usage of.gov domain to host the official transition speech.Dr. Dhillon Randeep
