We all know that US forces attempted a successful operation by killing Iran military leader Qasem Soleimani. On multiple occasions, Trump claimed that no Americans were injured when Iran retaliated. However, everything was not as expected by President Trump. Soon after the operation, Iran launched a missile on Ain al-Asad airbase on January 8th in retaliation, where several US soldiers were injured. The Pentagon acknowledged this news last week information that about 11 US soldiers required medical aid outside of Iraq as a result of retaliation. Eight of the soldiers suffered concussion-like symptoms, while three were given behavior-health treatment.
Following the Pentagon’s acknowledgment, CBS News reporter Weijia Jang asked Trump, who is currently in Davos, Switzerland, for World Economic Forum. Jang asked, “Initially, you claimed that no Americans were hurt, but we now know at least 11 soldiers were airlifted from Iraq. Can you explain the discrepancy?” President Donald Trump downplayed the injuries that were suffered by US soldiers in his response. He said - “No, I heard that they had headaches and a couple of other things. But I would like to say, and I can report that the injuries were not very serious.” He continued, “I don’t see them as serious injuries compared to other injuries that I’ve seen previously. I know what Iran has done with their roadside bombs to our troops. I’ve also seen people with no legs and no arms. I can consider such injuries as really bad but not these. If you need further details, you can follow up with the Defense Department because I was told about the injuries numerous days later after the incident. ”
However, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention termed concussion as a traumatic brain injury that can blow the head. Usually, concussions are not life-threatening, but their effects can be severe. Most of the political enthusiasts criticized Trump for shrugging off the US servicemen. Susan Connors, President and CEO of the Brain Injury Association of America, termed Trump’s remarks as “disappointed.” She further added, “A brain injury changed everything from how you move, act, feel and think - it can change who you are to the core. What can be more serious that?”
Former Vice President Joe Biden also dissed Trump for disrespecting US soldiers’. Biden posted, “We need a president who respects our service members and honors our sacred duty to care for our wounded warriors.”
Here’s the tweet from Joe Biden:
U.S. troops hurt in Iran's missile attack are being evaluated for traumatic brain injuries. To Trump, it's just “headaches.” We need a president who respects our service members and honors our sacred duty to care for our wounded warriors. https://t.co/lqzSDWezk7— Joe Biden (Text Join to 30330) (@JoeBiden) January 23, 2020
